Padres Ride 4-Game Winning Streak

The Padres are riding a four game winning streak after the first week of the season, and after beating last year's Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum and the Giants.

Adrian Gonzalez gave the Padres the lead in the third inning. Then a big blow by Chase Headley went deep. The Padres won 6-1 behind Chris Young.

They swept the Giants and are 5-2 heading to New York for a game Monday night.

Players and coaches are starting to believe that this club can compete.

“I know a lot of people out there don't have high expectations for us. It is a long season. We'll temper the excitement," Young told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "But it is good for us to get some confidence, to really believe in ourselves, to know that if we play the right way, we are a good team and we can go out and win.”

"It doesn't matter what everybody else thinks," left fielder Chase Headley told the North County Times. "It matters what everybody thinks in this clubhouse. I think everybody in here believes that we can win."
