Larry English of the San Diego Chargers prepares to tackle Darrius Heyward-Bey of the Oakland Raiders at Qualcomm Stadium on December 5, 2010 in San Diego, California.

At about this time last season, the Chargers placed wide receiver Buster Davis, a first-round bust, on injured reserve.

On Wednesday, the team did the same for a player in danger of being lumped in the same category.

Outside linebacker Larry English, a 16th overall pick in 2009, was has been lost for the season to a broken foot suffered Sunday against the New York Jets.

For the past two years, the former Northern Illinois standout seems to have spent as much time in a walking boot as the field. A foot injury limited him last year and forced him to have offseason surgery.

English is in the third season of a five-year rookie contract. He has seven sacks in 29 career games, including a career-high two sacks in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins.

Tackle Steve Schilling was signed to the active roster. Running back Jordan Todman officially joined the practice squad after clearing Monday waivers.
