The Treeful, Gleeful Redwood Mountain Faire Returns

HONORARY MEMBER: If you've ever been handed a sticker, the kind of sticker you proudly put on your shirt, the sort of bright sticker that designates you as an honorary member of an organization, well, you know you can feel a bit chuffed and more than a little peacocky. It's nice to be included, even if you haven't fully signed all the forms. But certainly things beyond people can also achieve honorary memberships, like the month of June, for instance. The bulk of the calendar's sweet sixth month is distinctly not summertime, official-wise and all that, and yet we breezily refer to June as summer, because it seems like it should be. It's the...

REDWOOD MOUNTAIN FAIRE, which, yes, takes place at Roaring Camp in the spectacular Santa Cruz Mountains, among some tall and glorious redwoods. It's coming back around again, just in time to mark its first decade, and there'll be 22 bands ready to fiddle away the days, in some cases literally, on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2. Big Sam's Funky Nation'll be on the stage, and The Dustbowl Revival, too, as well as a host of other break-out-the-mandolins, stomp-and-twirl outfits. Off the stages (there are two)? There are plentiful to-dos, and plenty with kids in mind, from a bounce house to face painting. And while it is a separate ticket, there are train rides, too, through those aforementioned redwoods.

A TICKET... is $25 per day β€” that's for an adult β€” and parking is ten bucks. The beneficiaries of the weekend will include several regional organizations, like Friends of Quail Hollow Ranch, which "... is dedicated to improving and preserving Quail Hollow's ecosystem."
