A field trip to the park on the second to last day of school turned into a terrifying ordeal for a group of elementary school students in Rialto.

A shooting at Alec Fergusson Park at 2395 W. Sunrise Drive sent nearly 80 first and second graders ducking for cover.

Some parents raised concerns about their children's safety.

In a cellphone video provided by a parent, you can hear and see dozens of kids, all first and second graders from Fitzgerald Elementary, huddled underneath tables. Some are hugging each other. Many are crying.

"I heard the gunshots and saw someone fall to the ground," said Dahlia Welch, a second grade student. "I hid under a table."

The parent who shot the video was also terrified. She is also eight months pregnant.

A camera from a home across the street captured the sound of a barrage of bullets at Ferguson Park.

Police say a fight among a group playing basketball turned into a gun battle, killing one person and critically injuring another.

Police are still searching for the shooters. The kids, teachers and chaperones were a few hundred feet away and not hurt.

Police say unarmed security was with the kids at the field trip, but video shows a marked security SUV driving away from the scene. NBC4 doesn't know where the SUV was going and if and when it returned.

Rialto police are investigating.

Frantic parents reunited with their kids who were bused back to campus Wednesday afternoon, grateful their children are safe.

The Rialto Unified School District released a statement saying the shooting did not involve students.
