Fresh off the news that Kering—the investment group that controls mega-brands like Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney—had taken a minority interest in his brand, Joseph Altuzarra showed a spring '14 collection that solidified his status as fashion's latest golden boy.

Many pieces felt like wardrobe staples, but Altuzarra carefully considers even the most seemingly simple garments. The establishing silhouette—long, slashed pencil skirt, banker blouse (unbuttoned to there)—came in a number of iterations, each exuding a working gal power tempered by a sexy, coming-apart-at-the-seams air.

We loved the little "financier" details, like the unbuttoned white cuffs on striped button-downs.

Adding to the "deshabille" were little silk ribbons fluttering from the corseted pencil skirts.

Some of the ensembles amplified the contrast between the frilly feminine and modern masculine, like this lacy white sundress paired with a super-structured utility jacket.

Altuzarra's emphasis seemed to fall on day wear, but this is a man that knows how to cut a head-turning dress. Among our favorites: a white satin number with a messy, rib-revealing drape that gave the illusion of being held together by a few snips of ribbon.

Maybe all those finance, commuter-train references had us subconsciously thinking about the gold standard, but for whatever reason the introduction of glimmering metallics like this slinky gilt cocktail dress felt right.

The draped, twisted waist on this liquid silver pencil skirt was paired with a simple low-necked henley in utilitarian gray.

Devotees to Altuzarra's crisp tailoring will appreciate his structured deep-V leather dresses, which came finished with swaths of short fringe through the waist.

For ladies who consider their cost-per-wear of a given garment, a draped black dress with a thigh-bearing slit offers a lot of bang for the buck.
