Meth Seized in Motel Room Bust

Officials conducted a search in two rooms at a Motel 6 in Vista

A search in two rooms at a motel in Vista led deputies to methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

According to deputies, members of the Vista Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) unit conducted a probation search at a Motel 6 located at 330 Mar Vista Dr. on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.

During the operation officials seized 46 grams of meth along with digital scales, packaging material and $2,800 in cash from the rooms.

Deputies said occupants Betsy Thomas, 36, and Charles Patterson, 45, were arrested in the motel bust for possession for sales of a controlled substance. A third suspect, James Taylor, 47, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

All three suspects were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, the sheriff’s department confirmed.

The search was part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce crime and target prolific offenders in the Vista area.
