After taking three of four games in Milwaukee to win their first road series since May, the Padres opened a weekend set in Arizona with good juju working. There was no reason to believe that would change at Chase Field.
The Friars are 15-6 in their last 21 games against Arizona. They'd won nine of 13 games in Phoenix, hitting 15 homers and averaging nearly six runs a game in that span.
So, in true baseball fashion, the Padres got shut out 10-0 in Phoenix.
23-year-old Diamondbacks starter Randall Delgado wasn't around for any of his team's previous frustrations against San Diego. Delgado tossed a complete-game, 3-hitter.
Padres starter Eric Stults allowed seven runs on 11 hits in five innings to take the loss.
