Sheriff: Pot Dispensary's Armed Guards Not a Deterrent

Two people are being sought in a takeover-style armed robbery at an illegal marijuana dispensary in Spring Valley, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Deputies said the robbery happened just before 9 p.m. at a dispensary near Bancroft Drive and Memory Lane. Businesses and restaurants are located in the neighborhood south of State Route 94 and east of State Route 125.

The robbery was reported by a passer-by, not by the staff of the business, Sgt. Kotaro Murashige said.

The two robbers forced their way in, disarmed a security guard and ordered employees to the ground.

The robbers fled with marijuana products but it's not known if any cash was taken.

The Sheriff's Department says there has been a trend of similar dispensary robberies in which armed guards were not a deterrent and staff members did not call for help.

In some cases dispensary workers have refused to allow law enforcement to enter, deputies said.
