Forum on Religious Freedom to Be Held in El Cajon

A forum sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic-Relations (CAIR San Diego), the ACLU San Diego and Alliance San Diego, will be held Friday night.

The program was put together in an effort educate members of the community on how President Donald Trumpโ€™s recent Travel Ban Executive Order affects family and friends here in San Diego.

The Executive Order suspends immigrants attempting to enter the U.S. from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen โ€” all Muslim majority nations โ€” for 90 days.

Since the Presidentโ€™s signing on January 27, protests have been held at airports nationwide. Key Republicans, such as Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have also spoken out against the Order.

The โ€˜Forum on Religious Freedomโ€™ is being held in response to growing fears that Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim rhetoric are on the rise.

Tensions against the Travel Ban hit close to home as the ban has had a direct effect on those in San Diego County.

The sponsors of the forum hope to create a coalition of organizations, educators, and local political leaders to support American Muslim communities.

The Forum on Religious Freedom will take place at 7050 Eckstrom Ave., in the Multi Purpose Room at 6:30 pm.
