Police converged on Thursday night in a Logan Heights neighborhood in response to reports of an armed man wearing a mask who tried to rob a bakery.
San Diego police surrounded the area in the 3100 block of Imperial Avenue just before 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a suspect with a rifle at the bakery.
Officers swept the bakery, but did not find the man inside the building; they plan to interview witnesses to obtain a detailed suspect description.
Two employees told investigators they immediately left the business when the man entered with a gun.
Several roadways in the area were temporarily closed as of 9:30 p.m., as officers searched for the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released.
