A program that helps students pay for community college will be extended to help more students next year, administrators said Tuesday.
The San Diego Promise program started at the San Diego Community College district last year as a pilot program with 200 students.
In 2017, the program will help 600 more students by paying enrollment fees and providing grants for books. Students who enroll at City, Mesa and Miramar colleges are eligible for the financial aid.
Students in the program are required to take 12 units, show academic progress in their school work and also complete eight hours of community service.
The District is hoping to get endowments to continue the program into the future.
