Padres starting pitcher Ian Kennedy has allowed three runs or less in 16 starts this season. He's only won eight of those games.
Kennedy didn't get enough run support again on Friday night in Pittsburgh. Kennedy allowed two runs in 6.0 innings, but his offense only provided one run against underrated Pirates starter Vance Worley. The Pirates won 2-1.
San Diego's only run came in the first inning. Everth Cabrera led off with a double and later scored on a Seth Smith sacrifice fly.
The Pirates got their runs in the bottom of the first. Gregory Polanco singled in Josh Harrison, then came home on an Ike Davis sacrifice fly.
After that, goose eggs for everyone. Worley struck out seven Padres in 7.0 innings.
Saturday a pair of lefties, Eric Stults and Francisco Liriano, meet on the mound.
