Update: Chula Vista police are investigating how a 72-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease made it several miles from her home in the South Bay to a friend's house in the East County.
Anita Medina was reported missing by her husband Wednesday morning after she was last seen at the couple's home at Congregational Towers, 288 F St., in Chula Vista, police said.
Medina told her husband she was going for a short walk, but failed to return, according to Chula Vista police.
She was located safe and unharmed later in the day at a friend's house in Rancho Del Rey and later reunited with her husband, police said.
Rancho Del Rey is about four miles east of where the Medinas live in Chula Vista.
