Gas leak in La Mesa Caused by Car Crashing Into Gas Meter

Heartland Fire asked people to avoid the area for the next four hours

La Mesa police and fire officials were working to cap a natural gas leak in the 7800 block of Quince Street on Tuesday.

The Heartland Fire Department said the leak started at around 3:45 p.m. and asked people to avoid the area for the next four hours.

SDG&E said a car crashed into a gas meter and ruptured the line.

Officials at the scene said the line was repaired at around 8:45 p.m. Some nearby residents were evacuated and allowed to go back to their homes once it was fixed.
