The 2019 NASCAR season kicks off with the Daytona 500 on Sunday. But on Tuesday Jimmie Johnson was discussing a different type of race.
The El Cajon native announced that he will run the Boston Marathon on April 15.
Johnson explained in a video on his Twitter account that after seeing the bombing at the race in 2013 he decided he wanted to run, and experience 'Boston Strong'.
Thankful to @Gatorade for their support on and off the track as I take on this new challenge. #FormulatedForBoston pic.twitter.com/fQnxRgA9J0 — Jimmie Johnson (@JimmieJohnson) February 12, 2019
"It just seemed like something I should do, and see if my body can handle it all."
The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has never run a marathon, but has run up to 20 miles before. On Sunday he took part in the Daytona Beach Half Marathon.
