Man Jumps Off Hotel and on Top of Ambulance: PD

The man told police he was trying to get the attention of medics when he jumped on top of their emergency vehicle at the Heritage Inn in San Diego's Midway District

Medics got quite a surprise during an emergency call in the Midway District Tuesday morning when a man jumped off the second-story of a hotel and onto the top of ambulance.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said the bizarre incident happened around 5:30 a.m. at the Heritage Inn located at 3333 Channel Way.

Medics were called out to the hotel to treat a woman suspected of an overdose. When the ambulance arrived, police say a man jumped off the second floor of the building, landing on top of the ambulance. Police say the man claimed he did this to get the attention of the medics.

An altercation ensued between the man and the medics at the scene, and police officers were called. Minutes later, the incident was cleared up and everything was under control, police said.

No arrests were made.

An SDPD officer told NBC 7 the woman who prompted the medical call ultimately died, likely from an overdose. No one else was harmed.

No further details were immediately released.
