Grandmother: “I Was Scared to Death They Were Dead”

The grandmother of the four-year-old girl missing in Ohio says she is thrilled her granddaughter and daughter were both found safe -- and alive.

"I was scared to death they were dead," Mary Watson said.

Her daughter, 24-year-old Candace Watson, was in a San Diego County courtroom Thursday, where she waived extradition, and will voluntarily return to Ohio.  Meantime, in Ohio, she was charged with harboring and concealing a federal fugitive. A warrant was issued in Ohio, and forwarded to San Diego.

That fugitive, her 27-year-old boyfriend Robbi Potter, walked away from a halfway house in Ohio after serving prison time for violent sexual battery on two children under the age of ten.

The three were found Tuesday at a Valley Center Christian retreat, called Morning Star Ranch, where they had been staying for about a week. A resident of the ranch saw a billboard with the fugitives' pictures, and authorities were alerted.

"I've never known her to do anything like this before," said Mary Watson, referring to her daughter. "I cannot be mad at my daughter, I love my daughter… I'm willing to go every step of the way with her, whatever it takes, I am there for them."
