Residents Evacuation After Natural Gas Line Ruptures in Oceanside

All residents have returned to their homes

Residents were evacuated after a natural gas line broke Sunday in Oceanside, police said.

The gas line broke shortly before 1 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Ditmar Street, near Ditmar Elementary School, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

Landscapers digging with a small bobcat struck the gas line, according to witnesses.

Oceanside Police and Fire departments evacuated some nearby homes while advising other residents to shelter in place.

Firefighters closed the street for some time while they worked, and told residents on Nevada Street to the east to secure their windows and doors since the wind was blowing in that direction.

San Diego Gas &Electric secured the gas line around 2 p.m. All streets have been reopened and residents have returned to their homes.
