Driver Crashes Through Building Wall, Ends up 100 Feet Deep in Building

A driver was believed to be speeding when his car slammed through the wall of a Chula Vista storage facility and landed in a pile of rubble about 150 feet deep into the building, police said.

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) said the car must have been flying down Hilltop Drive when he crossed through Main Street and hit a dip in the road, sending the car into the self-storage facility at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

The driver was being combative with officers after they arrived on scene and found his car inside the self-storage building, CVPD said. Eventually, he calmed down and medics were able to take the moderately injured man.

The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center but was not arrested.

CVPD said they believe speed was a factor in the crash. They did not say if they believed the driver was intoxicated.
