Driver Slams Through 3 Fences in Oceanside

A speeding car crashed through three fences on Wednesday sending the driver to the hospital with serious injuries, the Oceanside Police Department confirmed.

The accident happened at approximately 4:48 p.m. near the corner of N Santa Fe Avenue and Elsinore Street in Oceanside.

Police say the driver was not impaired in any way but excessive speed may have caused the accident.

He was heading northbound on N Santa Fe Avenue, driving between an estimated 90 to 100 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone, according to police.

He failed to negotiate the gradual turn, causing the car to hop the curb.

The car first crashed through a block wall protecting a housing community, then through an iron fence surrounding the next door neighbor's pool and through a wooden fence dividing two back yards.

It was a dormant fire plug that finally stopped the car.

Homeowner Michael Card told NBC 7 it was like the scene from a movie.

"He wasn't really responsive. He was looking all over and closing his eyes, waking back up. The only thing he did respond to was his age which is 24. Mostly he was kind of in and out," Card said.

Emergency responders had to use the jaws of life to free the driver.

He was flown to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.

Officials say his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
