San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for the driver of a BMW left on the railroad tracks in Del Mar.
A train crashed into that car near Coast Boulevard and 15th Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
When the northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train rounded the curve, the engineer saw the car and immediately applied it emergency brakes but couldn't stop in time, deputies said.
No one was injured in the crash.
Deputies say they believe the car was either left on the tracks or became disabled and could not be moved.
The car has since been towed from the scene here but deputies are still looking for that driver.
