A small brush fire was sparked early Monday afternoon in National City.
The fire was first reported shortly after noon near Sweetwater Road and Valley Road, where National City firefighters were battling the flames.
National City police urged drivers to avoid Sweetwater Road between Stockman Street and Valley Road, which is where Sweetwater crosses State Route 54.
Firefighters were able to make quick work of the fire and knocked down the flames by 1:30p.m. Sweetwater Road reopened to traffic soon thereafter.
The cause of the fire was not yet known.
