The city of Escondido gathered Sunday to celebrate Bob Wilson’s 90th birthday.
If you live in Escondido you've probably heard the name.
The Escondido native is known for his compassion and generosity. He recently donated nearly $1 million dollars to victims of the Camp Fire.
Wilson handed out $1,000 checks to students and staff at Paradise High School who lost everything in the massive wildfire.
The people of Escondido say his giving nature has won the hearts of many.
"Bob is an example of a community treasure he and Marian have affected the lives of thousands of people," said longtime resident Jack Raymond.
A modest Wilson said it's his friends and family that have made it all possible.

"We love to support good causes and as a result, these people put wings on our support," Wilson told NBC 7.
To celebrate Wilson’s 90th birthday, the community ensured he felt that love with a special party held at his alma mater.
"Bob is an incredible graduate of Escondido high school from the class of 1947," said Escondido Union High School Superintendent Steve Boyle.
Wilson called his high school years “golden.”
"Being involved in football in the high school, hanging out with friend's student government. High school was golden for me," he said.
The city of Escondido also named Sunday as “Bob Wilson Day” in his honor.
