A search is under way for a good Samaritan who confronted a man assaulting a mentally disabled teen.

According to detectives, the 18-year-old female victim was riding the 7B bus at about 10:40 a.m. last Thursday when she was sexually battered by a man riding the bus as it traveled east in the 1700 block of University Avenue.

Police said a woman riding the bus witnessed the attack and confronted the attacker. The driver of the bus then discussed the incident with the good Samaritan, who left before police arrived. Investigators want to contact the witness, who police said got on the bus at Fairmount and University.

Anybody with information about the witness's whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477. The missing woman is white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. She was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans and had her blond hair up in a bun.
