Teen Arrested in Trolley Shooting

A teenager accused of shooting an MTS officer has been arrested for what MTS officials call an unprecedented string of violence against officers.

Marquise Loftis, 18, was arrested during a traffic stop Tuesday night after he allegedly targeted MTS officers last week.

The latest crime happened Saturday at the Grossmont trolley station in La Mesa. The suspect walked up to the officer, pulled out a gun and then opened fire, police said. While the officer was down, the suspect stole his weapon and ammunition.

A similar crime happened last Wednesday at a trolley stop near Encanto. In that case the suspect did not shoot the security officer but did steal his gun and ammunition.

The victims in both cases identified the suspect, police said.

Other passengers, who were inside the car during the traffic stop when Loftis was arrested, were also arrested Tuesday night. Officers would not say why or if they were connected to the MTS crimes.
