Report: Carlsbad Couple Couldn't Live Apart

An elderly Carlsbad couple who investigators say died in a possible murder-suicide "didn't want to live without the other one," according to a published report.

Warren Mingus, 90, and Emma Mingus, 88, were found with gunshot wounds inside their home on New Year's Day, Lt. Matt Magro said.  An unidentified family acquaintance alerted police, mentioning the couple had medical issues.  Magro said the deaths are being treated as a homicide and the investigation is ongoing.

They had been married since 1991, Emma Mingus' stepson told the North County Times.

"They just loved each other very dearly," Jack Brunton said.  "They both had been through other marriages. They didn't want to live without the other one... he was just in a lot of pain and she was in a lot of pain watching him suffer," he added.

Declining health had left Warren Mingus unable to walk and depressed, Jack Brunton told the paper.
