Firefighters battled a brush fire on Community Road in Poway Wednesday.
The fire burned behind a business park south of Scripps Poway Parkway. The canyon was located east of Pomerado Road and north of Beeler Canyon Road and Creek Road.
The fire grew to just under 2 acres and did not threaten any nearby structures or force any evacuations, Poway Fire Department Deputy Chief Jon Canavan said.
Canavan said the fire was started by a crew welding a metal fence nearby. The crew tried to out it out but was unsuccessful, Canavan said.
First reported just before 2 p.m., the fire was contained within 45 minutes, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
No other information was available.
