15-Year-Old Struck, Killed by Car in Spring Valley

Samuel Garcia-Acedo was running across a crosswalk when he was fatally struck by an oncoming vehicle

A 15-year-old boy died after being hit by a car in Spring Valley Tuesday, California Highway Patrol officials confirmed.

The deadly accident happened just after 4:30 p.m. at Jamacha Boulevard and La Presa Avenue.

CHP officials said the teenager -- now identified as Samuel Garcia-Acedo -- was running on a marked crosswalk across Jamacha Boulevard when, at the same time, a 20-year-old driver in a 2008 Toyota Prius approached the intersection.

The teen ran right in front of the car. The driver, traveling approximately 45 mph, was unable to avoid hitting Garcia-Acedo.

The teenager was critically injured and died at the scene, CHP officials said. The driver was not harmed.

The accident remains under investigation. CHP officials said the driver had the green light while the teenager crossed the intersection against the red light, but within the crosswalk. It appears alcohol or drugs did not play a role in this deadly accident.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office said the victim lived with his parents in Spring Valley. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.

The intersection was shut down for several hours following the collision as CHP crews gathered evidence and cleared the scene.
