Man Killed in I-5 Crash Near Border ID'd

Jose Juan Ramirez, 46, was killed when his struck on Interstate 5 Friday evening

Authorities have identified the victim of a crash on Interstate 5,  which occured just north of the U.S.-Mexican border on Friday evening.

Jose Juan Ramirez, 46, was said to be the man behind the wheel of a late-model Nissan sedan going south on the I-5 toward Camino de la Plaza off-ramp, at about 5:10 p.m.

For unknown reasons, Ramirez  attempted to cross two lanes of traffic at which point he was struck on the passenger side by a Toyota Tacoma, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.

Ramirez was later  transported to the UCSD Medical Center where he was pronounced dead minutes after his arrival, according to SDME officials.
