Local Indian's Concerned About Mumbai Terror Attacks

San Diegans with family living in Mumbai have expressed their concern over the terror attacks carried out in India's financial capital.

The latest incident is particularly worrisome in a city that has seen regular attacks, said SDSU Professor Nikhal Varaiya.  "In the past it would be someone detonating a bomb in a crowded place.  This time they clearly were organized and new knew where to go at the right time," he said.

Professor Varaiya has two sisters who live in the city but they were not directly affected by incident.  One sister works in an office near the Oberoi and Taj Mahal hotels.  "It happened at night so she was not really affected," said Varaiya.

Abhay Joshi is the President of the group San Diego Maharastra Mandal, a community group for people from the state of Maharastra.  Members who have parents and other family members in Mumbai are in phone contact on a daily basis.

The group is also trying to raise funds for the victims in the attacks.
