Three inbound flights from Norita, Japan to Los Angeles International Airport were confirmed canceled Friday morning, officials said.
Delta Airlines flight 284, Air Nippon flight 6 and Japan Airlines flight 62 will not depart on scheduled times.
The flights were cancelled and delayed in response to damage caused by a magnitude-8.9 earthquake in Japan Friday.
"'We're advising travelers to contact their airlines about the most up- to-date information about flight cancellations and delays," Los Angeles International Airport Public Relations Specialist Katherine Alvaredo said.
A Delta Airlines flight departing for Japan after midnight was cancelled and another American Airlines flight to Honolulu returned after takeoff to Los Angeles International Airport following the 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
A Tokyo Delta flight scheduled for midnight had passengers boarded, ready for take off and was cancelled, Alvaredo said.
A second flight that was en route to Honolulu from LAX was cancelled and returned to Los Angeles when the tsunami warning was issued in Hawaii, Alvaredo said.
