It's Only Natural…

The long-awaited San Elijo Nature Center will open Saturday in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, officials announced.

The two-story "green" building, adjacent to the San Elijo Lagoon, is made from recycled materials and uses solar panels, irrigated roof plants and recycled water technology.  Work on the $5.6 million building began in 2007, but the project has been in the works for more than two decades.

The green center, located off Manchester Avenue, will provide education about the lagoon's ecosystem, watershed and history along with interactive exhibits about the environmental aspects of the building.

Supervisor Pam Slater-Price will join officials from the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy and the San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation to open the nature center.
