Investigators at Chopper Crash Site

A Defense Department accident investigation team is at the scene of Marine Corps helicopter crash that killed two experienced pilots in eastern San Diego County.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar says the AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing crashed shortly before midnight Tuesday in a remote section of the Cleveland National Forest. The only two people on board were killed.

The crash set off a one- to two-acre brush fire.

A Marine Corps spokesman says the pilots were part of an air-combat unit that was preparing to go overseas.
