Social Media Can Keep You in a Job

When career expert Tony Vianna offers people advice, he says not to forget social networking sites.

"I first thought that places like Facebook and Twitter were probably only social networks," Vianna said. "They are very powerful business networking places for people to use to look for jobs and careers."

Job experts point out that the best time to network is when you have a job, not when you are looking for work.

"It's not disloyal, because you should always be aware of how your job environment is changing," Vianna said.  "You always want to see what is going on outside."

Ashish Ray agrees.  While the San Diego man has a job, "I've kept my network open and thriving. So just in case something happens, I'll have my network to tap into."

Vianna said workers should keeping up network connections and be prepared for change.

People are going to have three or four careers -- not three or four different jobs but three or four careers in their lifetime," Vianna said.
