Cop: Kids May Have Sparked House Fire

Suspects age six, ten and 12

Three kids, age six, ten and 12 could face arson charges for setting a Mira Mesa home on fire.

Police say the kids somehow got into the Embry Court home and were playing with matches. Neighbors said they heard the boys running around the house and making lots of noise before they saw the boys standing in a huddle across the street just moments before they noticed smoke coming out of the house.

No one was injured in the fire, which firefighters said originated in the garage. They were able to keep the fire contained in the garage as well.

Neighbors said the home was foreclosed upon and has been vacant for at least eight months. They said they're disappointed in the kids, since the outcome could have been worse.

"It's a real threat to our neighborhood," said Yvonne Ledous, who lives down the street. "I mean thank God there wasn't those winds because it could have popped anywhere."

Damages are estimated at $150,000 for the home and another $5,000 for the contents inside. It is unknown at this time whether the bank had sold the home to any new owners.
