Trucks were lined up at the Feeding America San Diego Warehouse to make help the charity move to a larger and more appropriately equipped facility.
More than 20 truckloads were used to move 800,000 pounds of food and 40,000 tons of equipment to the new Waples Street Warehouse.
The new facility will allow Feeding America San Diego to save money, which will in turn produce more food, accommodate more volunteers, increase efficiency, offer better customer service to 180 nonprofit partners and provide on-site cold storage.
The cold storage will enable FASD to accept 5 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as 3 million pounds of donated milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs and meat each year.
FASD provides safe, nourishing food to over 440,000 San Diegans who struggle to get food on the table at any given meal.
