Explosive Found By Hiker Near Park

A hiker near a San Diego County park has found a military explosive, according to police.

The ordnance was discovered Saturday near Highway 52 north of Mission Trails Regional Park, Officer Brad Ruff said. The hiker used GPS coordinates to direct authorities to the location.

Explosives experts from the adjacent Marine Corps Air Station Miramar were called out to the scene, but a base spokesman didn't have any further information.

The area was used during World War II for live artillery practice and for pilots to drop dud bombs.
