Eastlake All-Stars ‘Ecstatic' as U.S. Championship Approaches

The team is set to play in Saturday's U.S. Championship game after their big win on Wednesday

A coach for Chula Vista's Eastlake All-Stars said the team is "ecstatic" as they look forward to playing in Saturday's U.S. Championship competition in the Little League World Series after advancing to the game with their big win on Wednesday night.

“They’re signing a bunch of autographs for people,” said All-Stars Coach, Doug Holman, whose son, Grant Holman, plays on the team.

"They're giddy, you know, and they deserve it."

The All-Stars advanced to the U.S. Championship game after winning 3-6 against Westport, Conn., in a semifinal game televised on ESPN Wednesday night.

At Saturday's 3:30 p.m. Championship game at Lamade Stadium, the All-Stars will face either Westport or Northwest champion Sammamish, Wash. after those teams play on Thursday.

Sammamish (3-1) moved on to the matchup in the U.S. bracket by eliminating Nashville, Tenn., 6-5 on Tuesday. Westport was coming off a 9-7 victory over Sammamish on Sunday.

Holman says the team will be watching Thursday's game closely, but jokingly added that there's one thing the kids might not be doing between now and Saturday.

"When the coaches asked the kids if they wanted to spend a day with their parents, only one hand went up."
