Tourist Gets Stuck on Torrey Pines Cliff

A German tourist visiting San Diego became stuck on a cliff at the Torrey Pines Gliderport Monday and had to be rescued by emergency crews.

Lifeguards said the female tourist became trapped on a cliff around 12:40 p.m.

Lifeguards were able to quickly reach her. They helped her hoist herself back up to street level. She wasn't injured, just frightened.

The 46-year-old German woman, who is visiting the U.S. for the first time, told NBC 7 that she just wanted to get down to the beach to go swimming, but she missed the signs and took the wrong path down.

After walking down the cliffs for a bit, the tourist said the path turned dangerous and she realized she would need help. She said she signaled people on the beach for help and eventually rescue crews arrived.

The woman admitted she was embarrassed and a bit scared by the ordeal, but said the views from the cliff were “mesmerizing” and helped to keep her calm during the rescue.

She was extremely thankful to the crews that saved her.

Additional details about how she became stuck on the cliff were not immediately available. Check back for updates.
