North County who told police a pair of men tried to snatch them on their way to school made the whole thing up, according to investigators.
The children told Escondido police the incident occurred near the intersection of Mission Avenue and Cedar Street in Escondido at a little before 8 a.m. on Monday while walking to Mission Middle School. The teens said two men in a dark car tried to grab them, the police told the paper.
Investigators said Tuesday morning that detectives plan on re-interviewing the teens. About 12:30 p.m., police told the media that the boys lied so they wouldn't get in trouble for being late to school.
