An 88-year-old veteran nearly drowned after falling in the water near Harbor Island Monday morning.
The man fell into the water for an unknown reason at about 10 a.m. in Marina Cortez, according to fire department officials.
Emergency crews were called to rescue the man. He was transported in mild condition to the Balboa Naval Hospital.
He is expected to survive, authorities say.
