43 Arrested in Imperial Valley Drug Sting

Authorities say 43 people have been arrested in connection with a methamphetamine and heroin distribution ring in California's Imperial Valley.

U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy said the Tuesday raids brought the total amount of drugs seized in the operation to 30 pounds of methamphetamine and seven pounds of heroin. The defendants are being charged with drug offenses in state and federal courts.

Duffy says the drugs came to the border farming region through ports of entry in Calexico.

Methamphetamine and heroin seizures have soared at many border crossings with Mexico. The U.S. attorney's office says 70 percent of its drug cases in the Imperial Valley are related to methamphetamine, up from 18 percent in 2010.
