36 Local Students Quarantined in China

36 students from a private school in Carlsbad are being quarantined in China while being tested for the swine flu virus.

The ninth graders from Pacific Ridge School were at the end of a 13-day educational tour of the country when a few developed the sniffles. That prompted Chinese officials to place the students, along with seven chaperones, under quarantine, according to the head of the school Eileen Mullady.

"They're absolutely following the protocol that (the World Health Organization) set up when they declared a pandemic," Mullady told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The group is expected to fly home early next week.
