A man watching a tow truck driver work to get his disabled truck away from the shoulder of a San Diego-area highway was struck and killed by another car.
The man, identified as Cesar Duenas, had broken down on the transition from the westbound State Route 94 to Lemon Grove Avenue just before 6 p.m.
The Duenas was driving a full-sized Dodge pickup with an 8-foot utility trailer.
As the tow truck operator was loading the pickup for a tow, the driver of a Lexus exited the off-ramp and crashed into the disabled truck, according to Officer Travis Garrow with the California Highway Patrol.
Duenas of the disabled pickup was killed when he was struck by the utility trailer.
The tow truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital.
The ramp was shut down for the investigation.
The driver of the Lexus was not injured and stayed at the scene.
