Neighbors in the area reported hearing people arguing before the man was found, according to police

A man found stabbed near Mt. Hope Cemetery was identified Sunday, according to the San Diego Medical Examiners' office.

Officials said 48-year-old Emiliano Cortez was found in the 3700 block of T Street at about 4:40 a.m. Saturday. He was discovered by arriving police officers who were responding to a call of a person down.

Cortez was transported to an area hospital where he later died at 5:30 a.m., said Lt. Kevin Rooney of the SDPD Homicide Unit.

Neighbors in the area reportedly told homicide detectives they heard people arguing just before the man was noticed down on the sidewalk. Neighbors added that they also saw two men running east on T Street shortly after the incident, officials said.

Homicide detectives asked anyone with information to call them at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
