Toppling TVs Prove Deadly

Officials warn parents of childhood dangers.

Parents are being warned about the deadly danger that large-screen television sets can pose to young children.

Fifty children were injured in San Diego County since 2006, according to officials with Rady's Children Hospital today. Two of them died when large-screen televisions toppled over on them.

The doctor's message was clear: The big-screen monsters are a growing danger, especially to children between the ages of 1-3 years
old.

The story is all too familiar to Michelle Price, whose son, Simon, a 19-month old, was injured in just such and Incident. A 27-inch TV and armoire fall on the boy in December 2008. He suffered a lacerated liver and is lucky to be alive.

Simon is a healthy, happy boy today, but Price said Thursday that she hopes her story becomes a lesson for other parents.

Parents are being urged to childproof their homes by securing the TVs in place or moving them to safer locations.
