Fight Against Breast Cancer Takes Flight

A plane with a big pink ribbon landed in San Diego Thursday.

It's one of eight American Airlines planes that represent the one of eight women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

The ribbon is actually not painted -- on it's a decal.  The decal was put on by volunteers of American Airlines.

A spokesperson for the company said the plane is one part of the airlines larger commitment to fight breast cancer.

"We announced recently we're going to promise to give Komen $8 million dollars over eight years for their Promise Grant programs. It's an intensive research program to try and improve detection and treatment," said Rick Wilbins with American Airlines.

The 14th Annual American Airlines Celebrity Golf and Tennis weekend is taking place in Carlsbad this weekend.  The event raises money for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation
