Sailor's Day in Spring

The Maritime Museum of San Diego has one of the world’s finest collections of historic ships

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is hosting Spring Sailor’s Day in tribute to the world’s oldest active sailing ship, the Star of India.

This event will run daily beginning March 24 through April 7 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Adults and children alike can share in the experience of viewing the museum’s collection of historic vessels including sailing ships, steam-powered boats and submarines.

During the event, children can participate in a scavenger hunt to discover history about the ship, learn how to raise and lower huge sails and how to tie a sailor’s knot, and they'll also get a chance to climb through a steam engine, among other things.

At the end of the day, kids will get a prize of their choice from the ship’s treasure chest, according to event organizers.

Tickets for the event are $14 for adults, $8 for children.
