Sounds Like San Diego: Jan. 19

Martin Courtney breaks out from Real Estate to bring his solo show to Casbah

Real Estate has been an active band for more than a decade now, and they're still regarded highly in indie circles. The band released "Atlas" in 2014 and toured heavily, and in the meantime, its members have all pursued side projects. Ducktails, the project of Matt Monandile rolled through the Casbah last fall, and now vocalist Martin Courtney is out on his own, playing under his own name because he "couldn't come up with a band name," as he told "Spin" last year. I always hope that an effort like this could still mean some of your favorite Real Estate jams, but you never know. It's worth it to head to the Casbah just to find out. Around town it's Radio Halloran's night at the Merrow, while Ladysmith Black Mambazo plays a sold out show at the Belly Up, and Alvino & the Dwells play Tiki Tuesday at Bar Pink. For your fix of fuzzy, eclectic electro-pop, head to Soda Bar for L.A.'s Jerry Paper.
