Too soon to be talking about the holiday season? We know, we know. But like it or not, if you’ve been out and about lately, you know the displays are already up and they're coming out earlier and earlier every year. And to drive the point home, one of San Diego’s biggest musical exports, Jewel Kilcher, will be returning to town to usher them in proper.
On Dec. 4, the acclaimed singer/songwriter/author/actress (who got her start performing in San Diego coffeehouses) headlines San Diego Civic Theatre during her Handmade Holiday Tour. There, she’ll be performing holiday classics and originals, along with songs from her celebrated catalog. Kilcher will also be joined by special guests on the tour -- her father Atz, and her brothers Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher.
“With this Handmade Holiday Tour, I am so honored to share some of the traditions I was raised with in Alaska on our family homestead,” Jewel said in a recent press release. “Building memories by sharing handmade moments. Creating unique gifts and sharing songs is a Kilcher family tradition we can’t wait to share with others on this tour.”
Before she gets to America’s Finest City though, Jewel will be joining an all-star cast of performers, entertainers and musical acts at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas on Nov. 5 for Vegas Cares -- “a benefit concert to honor the brave first responders and the victims of the Las Vegas shooting on Oct. 1.”
Aside from Jewel, Blue Man Group, Britney Spears, Criss Angel, David Copperfield, Mike Tyson, Penn & Teller, Rich Little, Tom Green and many, many more are scheduled to make an appearance either in person or via video. Tickets are available here.
Jewel fans may also be interested in having a look at the latest episode of “In Your Neighborhood,” a web-series created/hosted by 91x Loudspeaker radio DJ (and all-around music scene supporter) Lou Niles -- as his most recent featured guest is none other than Kilcher herself.
So if you've been waiting for the right time to go see Jewel and didn't know she was coming to town, consider this article our gift to you. Hey, 'tis the season after all.
